Pokhara Marathon today:

POKHARA: The second Rashtriya Banijya Bank (RBB) Pokhara International Marathon is going to be held on Friday. Nepal Former Players’ Association is organising the event under the sponsorship of RBB. General secretary of NFPA and coordinator of the organising committee Tej Bahadur Gurung said that there will be 71 participants for the 41.195-km race. He also informed that there are 195 entries — 100 men and 95 women — who have confirmed their participation for the 10-km Open race. Among the students, there are 450 participants — 350 boys and 100 girls who will be running in the 10-km race. — HNS

Adarsha, Gautam win:

BIRGUNJ: Adarsha School beat Bikan School by 69 runs and Gautam School beat Miniland School by four wickets in the day’s matches of the second Ujjwol Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament here today. Electing to bat first, Adarsha were bowled out for 112 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Bikan were packed off for 43 runs in 13.1 overs. In the other match, Miniland scored 106 runs losing four wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Gautam School overcame the target in 19 overs losing six wickets. Man of the match: Rahul Yadav (Adarsha School) and Mohammad Alam (Gautam School). — HNS

District-level volleyball:

PHIDIM: Paanchthar College defeated Namuna Secondary School 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 25-15 and New Namuna School beat Sambahamfe Group of Ranigaon 25-19, 27-29, 25-13, 25-17 in the day’s semi-finals of the Inter-district Volleyball Tournament today. The event has been organised by District Volleyball Association of Paanchthar to mark the 55th Democracy Day. — HNS

Man Utd richest club:

LONDON: Manchester United, battling a 790 million-pound takeover bid by US tycoon Malcolm Glazer, has retained its position as the world’s wealthiest football club. The Deloitte Football Money League report for the 2003/04 season meanwhile showed that the world’s top 20 football clubs were set to break the $2.0-billion income mark in 2005. The survey found that English Premiership giants Manchester United had an income of $324 million, giving it the top spot for the eighth year in a row. Spanish giants Real Madrid came second with income of 156.3 million pounds and AC Milan stayed third with 147.2 million. — AFP

Ventura upsets Corretja:

SALVADOR: Spain’s Santiago Ventura beat countryman Alex Corretja 6-4, 6-4 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the $380,000 ATP Brazil Open, in one of the few matches completed on Wednesday before rain forced play to be suspended. In another match, Albert Martin of Spain defeated Paul-Henri Mathieu of France 6-2, 7-5. Martin, who was ahead 6-2, 4-4 when play was suspended, won three of the last five games to clinch a spot in the quarters. Martin, 61st in the wo-rld, will play Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina, who had advanced after beating Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-2, 6-2. — AP
