Paszek cleared
VIENNA: The Austrian Anti-doping Agency (NADA) on Thursday cleared tennis player Tamira Paszek of doping charges after deciding that she did not use unauthorised medication intentionally. Paszek did not
request permission for the procedure, which was carried out by a Mongolian doctor who specialised
in alternative remedies. The Austrian teenager, who is ranked 88th in the world, could have been handed a four-year ban. — AFP
Taiwo gets call
NAIROBI: Kenya coach Antoine Hey on Friday called up British-born Taiwo Atieno to strengthen his strike force in Sunday’s away Group Two World Cup and African Nations Cup qualifier against Mozambique in Maputo. The USA-based Rochester Rhinos player will partner Auxerre striker Dennis Oliech upfront in the match. Kenya beat Mozambique 2-1 in the first leg at home last June to register their first victory and move into third place behind group leaders Tunisia and Nigeria. Mozambique have only one point from three matches and are bottom of the group. — AFP
