Nepal climb to 25th
KATHMANDU: Nepal have climbed six steps up to the 25th in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Global Rankings. In a release issued here on Friday, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said Nepal improved to 25th from the previous ranking of 31st. The rankings are given to ICC’s 104 member countries — Test and One-day playing and affiliated and associate nations — every year. Among the non-Test playing Asian countries, Nepal are behind Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan. — HNS
Daffodil, Unique win
KATHMANDU: Hosts Daffodil ‘A’ and Unique advanced to the senior boys’ section final of the Daffodil Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Friday. Daffodil defeated Wilson Academy 68-67. Navaraj Dahal of Wilson top-scored in the match with 35 points, while Danger Rai netted 27 for Daffodil. In the other match, Unique outplayed NIMS 67-50. Bikash Gurung scored 25 for Unique and Jeevan Bhattarai netted 20 for NIMS. In girls’ section, Pennwood beat Daffodil 27-14 and NIMS overcame Kantipur 34-24 to enter the final. — HNS
Hilbert triumph
KATHMANDU: Hilbert International College teams registered wins in the first Hilbert Cup Inter-college Football Tournament. The hosts ‘B’ team thrashed KIST 7-2 riding on a hat-trick from Ramesh Upreti and two goals from Arjun Subba. Likewise, Sewak Siwakoti struck twice as Hilbert ‘A’ defeated Baneshwor Campus 2-1. Deepak Gyawali scored for Baneshwor. Also, Jagdish Shrestha scored four goals in Golden Gate’s 8-1 win over CBF, while Public Youth beat Caspian 5-4 on penalties. — HNS
