Sherpa leads

KATHMANDU: AT Sherpa won the Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa on Saturday. Played between the Gokarna Golf Club members, Sherpa won the match with a card of two-under 70. PK Shrestha finished second on count back against Prasanna Upretti after both the golfers scored 72 net points. The win also puts Sherpa on top of the medal standings with 74 points, four ahead of Joseph Nathan. The final match of the season, which will be played on February 14, will decide the club champion. On Saturday, 12 golfers participated in the tournament played on a match play format. — HNS

Ghale advances

KATHMANDU: Sushil Ghimire of APF Club and Ek Bahadur Ghale of Nepali Army entered the men’s 64kg section semi-finals here at the Nationwide Open Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship on Saturday. Advancing into the 45kg semi-finals were Purna Syangten, Ganesh Bahadur Budha Chhetry, Jutin Hemram and Ram Shrestha. Sachit Raut, Ram Kumar Maharjan, Manoj Maharjan and Bimal Kumar Singh also made it to the last four in the 58kg section. Bikash Lama, Ajit Gurung, Pashupati Kumal and Yam Bahadur Budha also entered the semi-finals in the 60kg event. — HNS

CCI win trophy

KATHMANDU: Hosts Classic College International (CCI) won the second CCI Boys Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday. The hosts defeated Deep Jyoti 25-17, 25-8, 25-14 in final. In the third place decider, Capital College and Research Centre edged past Newton International School 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 16-14. — HNS

LALITPUR: Shiva Rai and Nirmal Thapa beat Prakash Rai and Tulasi Limbu to win the mixed doubles title here at the sixth Lalitpurwide Ramailo Badminton Tournament on Saturday. Also, the pair of Prakash Rai and Daud Rai won the men’s doubles championship. — HNS
