NGYC finish first

KAVRE: New Gaukhureswor Youth Club (NGYC) of Dhulikhel won the first Friendship Cup Men’s Volleyball Tournament on Thursday. The NGYC beat hosts Friendship Group of Kavre 25-23, 25-19, 25-21 in final. Likewise, Shankheswor Youth Club defeated Bagh Bhairav Youth Club in a third place decider. Bidur Timalsina of the hosts’ team was declared the best player while SL Lama (best defence), Surya Lal Shrestha (best lifter) and Sunil Kumar Manandhar (best spiker) also won the honours. — HNS

Kayastha triumphs

BHAKTAPUR: Madan Krishna Kayastha won the Districtwide Chess Tournament organised by The Young Face, Bhaktapur. Kayastha defeated Umesh Sainju in the final round to accumulate 5.5 points. Bikash Kuluju came second with five points after he was held by Prajjwol Raj Rajopadhyay in the final round. Suman Suwal, who beat Shiva Bhakta Gainju, finished third with 4.5 points. The top three players received Rs 1,500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 respectively. In all, 27 players took part in the event. Senior chess player Ganesh Man Duwal gave away the prizes. — HNS
