Deep Jyoti triumph
KATHMANDU: Deep Jyoti claimed the fifth Valleywide Secondary School-level Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. Deep Jyoti saw off defending champions Lubhu Sadharan School 25-18, 25-22, 28-26 in final. Mahalaxmi finished third and hosts Model Academy fourth. Top four teams collected Rs 4,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively. Sri Krishna Rajthala of Lubhu was declared the best player while Suraj Singh of Model was adjudged the rising star. In all, 14 teams took part in the tournament. — HNS
Five teams confirmed
KATHMANDU: Five teams have confirmed their participation for the first South Asian Taekwondo (ITF) Tournament slated for December 1-3 here. Around 200 players from the Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will vie for 53 gold medals in five events — patron, team patron, spiring, team spiring and self defence. Nepal will field 70 players, India 79, Bangladesh 7, Pakistan 5 and Sri Lanka 5, said the Nepal International Taekwondo Federation president Krishna Bahadur Balal on Sunday. Meanwhile, international referees Rajendran Birajan and Narendra Rawat arrived here on Sunday, said the organisers. — HNS
