Elina wins U-16 title

BHAKTAPUR: Elina Maharjan defeated Asmita Shrestha 3-0 in the Under-16 section final at the Nationwide Open, Inter-college and Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament, which has been organised by Youth Sports Group, Bhaktapur, on Saturday. Neelam Foju beat Palpasa Prajapati 3-0 to win the U-12 section title, while Renuka Khatri outplayed Sanisha Shrestha 3-0 to in the Under-14 final. In boys’ section, Sonu Gupta beat Pradeep Rokka 3-2 U-16 final. — HNS

TIA beat Greenland

Kathmandu: Hosts Trungram International Acadmey (TIA) defeated Greenland 45-42 in the boys’ section match at the sixth TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament. In other matches, HIMS beat Prithvi 49-33; Newton defeated Himalayan 36-16; and Valley Public outplayed Reed Model 50-20. In girls’ section, Valley Public won two matches. They thrashed Marsyangdi 30-6 and outplayed Reed Model 34-6. Also, the hosts TIA beat Prithvi 26-25. — HNS

LALITPUR: ACE College eased to a 39-15 victory over Little Angels’ College at the Gyan Carnival 10+2 Basketball Tournament. In other matches, Golden Gate defeated Nava Jyoti 44-25 and Xavier International overcame National Campus 43-16. — HNS

‘C’ level course ends

LALITPUR: A 13-day AFC ‘C’ Level Coaching Certificate Course concluded on Saturday. In all 32 participants including three ladies received the certificates from All Nepal Football Association president Ganesh Thapa. AFC nominated instructor Dr Chhetrimayum Birbal of India and ANFA Technical Director Vim Thapa conducted the course. — HNS

Shanghai: World No 3 Novak Djokovic roared into his first Masters Cup final with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Gilles Simon. The Australian Open champion recovered from a poor first set and weathered a late fight-back to reach the year-end title match at the second attempt. Pakistan clinch series

Abu Dhabi: Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit a fighting century but couldn’t stop Pakistan winning the second day-night international by 24 runs, securing an unbeatable 2-0 lead. The 34-year-old notched an unbeaten 107. Pakistan dismissed the West Indies for 208. Earlier, Pakistan were also restricted by some disciplined deliveries by Jerome Taylor (3-38) and Daren Powell (3-50), with the team eventually bowled out for 232 in 49 overs. Pakistan were rescued by Misbahul Haq (52) and Younus Khan (34) after they lost both the openers for just seven runs. — AFP
