Taekwondo tourney

KATHMANDU: Biplab Khadka, Sabin Dulal, Ramu Thapa, Sijan Bhandari and Lincha Tamang advanced to the second round of the boys’ 40-43kg bout on the opening day of the first Youth Open Taekwondo Tournament, organised by Nepal Taekwondo Association, here on Monday. Rajiv Sundas, Chhitiz Rumbe and Ashok Giri also won their respective 43-46kg section bouts. In all, 420 players - 260 boys and 160 girls - are vying for championships in 12 events. The objective of the tournament is to produce better players for the Youth Olympic Games slated for 2010 in Singapore, said the organisers. — THT Online

KU, KCM in quarters

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu University (KU), Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) and Himalayan White House College entered the quarter-finals of the third LACM Inter-college Football Tournament on Tuesday. KU rallied for a 4-1 win over Little Angel College of Management ‘B’ (LACM) 4-1 on goals from Pawan Gurung, Dipen Manandhar, Rajan Dahal and Sunil Baniya. Rohan Shrestha had provided LACM the lead in the 13th minute. KCM and White House ensured their place in the last eight with a 1-1 draw on Tuesday. Sanjeev Manandhar put KCM ahead before Subash Malla equalised for White House. — HNS
