Atletico ban reduced

MADRID: European football’s governing body UEFA has reduced Atletico Madrid’s two-match stadium ban to one-match played behind closed doors, the Spanish club said. Atletico will therefore have to play their next Champions League home match against PSV Eindhoven on November 26 without spectators in their Vicente Calderon Stadium. The punishment comes after misbehaviour by fans during their October 1 Champions League fixture against Marseille.— AFP

Match rescheduled

ROME: The AS Roma versus Sampdoria match, which was washed out by heavy rain in midweek, will be played on January 14, the Italian league said. No kick-off time for the fixture was revealed however. The Serie A clash in the Italian capital on Wednesday was called off after six minutes due to a raging storm. The match was initially temporarily suspended but further lightning, thunder and heavy rain meant the match was officially postponed half an hour later. — AFP

Adriano axed out

ROME: Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho has sidelined Brazilian striker Adriano ahead of the Serie A match away to Reggina because of a lack of professionalism. The Italian media recently reported that Mourinho was angry with Adriano staying out socialising following last Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Genoa. The next morning the troubled Brazilian is reported to have turned up late for training. Mourinho subsequently left Adriano out of the team which drew 0-0 with Fiorentina on Wednesday. — AFP
