NPC, DHL friendly

KATHMANDU: A 21-member DHL Football Club of Dubai arrived here on Friday to play a friendly match with Nepal Police Club in Dasharath Stadium on Saturday. Vice president of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Lalit Krishna Shrestha and joint secretary Dhirendra Pradhan welcomed the team at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The ANFA set up the friendly match for NPC in their preparation for the upcoming AFC President’s Cup. — HNS

Team China-bound

KATHMANDU: Taekwondo ace Deepak Bista and Puspa Thapa Magar along with coach Kwan Hyouk Joung have left for China to take part in the Asian Taekwondo Championship to be held from April 26-28. Bista, who qualified for the Beijing Olympics, will take part in the Welter weight (78kg) category, while Puspa is scheduled to fight in the Finn (54kg) weight category. The three-member team went to China from South Korea, where they are undergoing training, and will return to Korea after the championship. — HNS

Selection tourney

KATHMANDU: Niranjan Prajapati defeated Deepak Maharjan and accumulated five points that put him at the joint top position along with Bhagawati Prasad Sharma after the sixth round of the Chess Qualifying Tournament on Friday. Sharma was forced to share the lead after he lost to Abhinaya Subedi, who is second with 4.5 points. Ratna Byanjankar, Deepak Maharjan and Hari Chandra Chaulagain are joint third with four points. The final round wil be held on Monday. — HNS

Blue Sky Cup

KATHMANDU: Bright Future School maintained their lead at the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women’s Volleyball League with a 19-25, 27-25, 25-26, 25-18 win over Tops HS School on Friday. Bright Future accumulated 22 points, while Nepal Police Club are second with 16. Gyanu Baba School defeated Tops School 25-12, 25-12, 25-22 and then beat Chhantyal Sports Association 25-11, 25-9, 25-10. In other matches, Fist Tail beat New Diamond Academy 25-16, 25-8, 25-14 and Chhantyal Sports Association registered a 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-10 win over Tribhuvan Army Club. Chhantyal Association have 15 points and Gyanu Baba 12. — HNS
