Torch route changed
CANBERRA: The route of the Olympic torch relay through the Australian capital on April 24 has been changed due to security concerns. “Yes, the route has been reviewed, adjustments have been made,” Australian Capital Territory chief minister John Stanhope said. Stanhope was replying to a question from Australia’s Seven television network, which also reported that China had asked that the Australian leg through Canberra be shortened. — AP
Cardiff enter final
WEMBLEY: Cardiff reached the FA Cup final for the first time since 1927 with a 1-0 win over fellow League Championship club Barnsley. The Welsh club will play Portsmouth in the final on May 17 after scoring the game’s only goal through Joe Ledley in the ninth minute. Portsmouth, the only Premier League club left in the competition, beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 in Saturday’s other semi-final match, also held at Wembley. — AP
PCB forms tribunal
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formed a three-member tribunal to hear fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s appeal against a five-year ban. Board spokesman Mansoor Sohail on Monday said a retired judge would head the tribunal, which also includes former Test cricketer Haseeb Ahsan and Salman Taseer, an ex-politician. The tribunal could begin hearing the appeal as early as Tuesday, Sohail said. Akhtar filed an appeal with the board last Friday, asking it to reverse its decision to ban him from all domestic and international matches for repeatedly breaching its code of conduct. — AP
