Suwal wins gold

KATHMANDU: Ramesh Suwal of Bhaktapur clinched the men’s Chan Quan gold medal at the Nationwide Wushu Tournament, organised by Pashupati Wushu Quan, on Saturday. Sajan Deshemaru of Bhaktapur won the men’s Nan Quan gold while Roshan Gurung earned the men’s Thaichi gold medal. Ramesh Suwal of Bhaktapur bagged the men’s thaulo championship. — HNS

Inter-school karate

KATHMANDU: Bhanubhakta Memorial School won the team championship at the VS Niketan Valleywide Inter-school Karate Tournament. Bhanubhakta earned five gold, one silver and eight bronze medals. Hosts VS Niketan finished second followed by Mt Gauri Shanker School. — HNS

Sheringham to retire

LONDON: Former England striker Teddy Sheringham will retire from soccer at the end of the season. Sheringham, who is midway through a season with Colchester in the second-tier League Championship, was 33 before he won a major title. He will leave with three Premier League medals and one each from the FA Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. The 41-year-old forward played 51 times for England. — AP
