KATHMANDU: Management ‘B’ team defeated English department team by eight wickets in the final of the TU Inter-Department Twenty20 Cricket Tournament here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Friday. Batting first, English team were bowled out for 50 runs in 19 overs, while the Management team overcame the target losing two wickets in 8.1 overs. Dhiraj Gyawali of Management team top-scored in the match with 17 off 15 balls, while Pravin Dhakal remained unbeaten on 12. None of the English Department team could score in double figures. Nagendra Raj Pandey of Management took three wickets, while Navaraj Bhatta and man of the match Mahesh Aryal got two each. In the third-place match,Environmental Science team defeated Education Department team by seven wickets. — HNS

Friends down Army

POKHARA: Friends Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) 4-3 on penalties to enter the quarter-finals of the sixth Aaha Gold Cup Football Tournament here on Friday. The match went to tie-breaker after a goalless draw. Nur Raj Kafle, Binod Lama, Bharat Khawas and Nilendra Dewan converted their spot kicks for Firends, while Cgun Bahadur Thapa, Mahendra Khawas and Raju Tamang scored for TAC. Ram Kumar Biswas and goalkeeper Bikash Malla of TAC and Nirajan Khadka of Friends missed their shots. Friends will now play against Sahara UK in the quarter-finals. — HNS

Ex-ANFA prez dead

KATHMANDU: Former president of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Adityadhoj Joshi died last week while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital. Joshi was 80. Joshi, who was also the former vice president of New Road Team (NRT) and vice president of Nepal Amateur Athletics Association, took charge of the ANFA in 1991. He is survived by wife, two sons and two daughters. — HNS

Nilesh, Saroj win

KATHMANDU: Nilesh Maharjan of Lalitpur and Saroj Tamang of Sundarijal entered the 25-kg section final of the 22nd Valleywide Karate and Kick Boxing Tournament on Friday. Sudip Puri and Biraj Tamang made it to the 20-kg final. Likewise, Nawaraj Giri, Prem Tamang, Swapnil Rijal and Bishal Suwal advanced to the 30-kg semi-finals, while Chhesang Sherpa, Dinesh Magar, Ramesh Lama and Rajiv Ranjit entered the 45-kg semi-finals. Earlier, general secretary of Nepal Karate Federation and president of Nepal Shito Ryu Karate Association Kedar Babu Siwakoti inaugurated the event. — HNS

Li enters final

GOLD COAST: China’s Li Na upset fourth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Friday to advance to the final of the Australian Women’s Hardcourt Tennis Championships. Li, who beat top-seeded Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic in straight sets in the quarter-finals, will play Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in Saturday’s final at Royal Pines. Azarenka beat fifth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel 6-4, 6-2 in the other semi-final. — AP
