Prabin, Anju win Road Race

KATHMANDU: Prabin Deshar of Jyotidaya Cooperative School and Anju Musyakhya of Bhaktapur English Secondary School won the Inter-school Valleywide Road Race organised jointly by All Nepal School Sports Association and Himalayan Bank here on Saturday. Prabin completed the 5-km race from Tinkune to Dasharath Stadium in 14 minutes 34.03 seconds to win the race ahead of Jyotidaya’s Deepak Desar (14:35.03) and Mahendra Bouddha’s Bhim Bahadur Tamang (15:36.77). In girl’s section, Anju completed the race in 20 minutes and 39.09 seconds, beating fellow school runner Goma Kafle (20:49.09) and Sangita Tiwari (21:19.09) of Sudesha Boarding School. The top three winners in both the sections received Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively. Jyotidaya won the boys’ section running shield, while Bhaktapur Secondary School won the trophy in girls’ section. Minister for Education and Sports Pradeep Nepal gave away prizes to the winners. — HNS

Fr Moran Cup

LALITPUR: Sagar Mainali struck twice as Puspanjali School defeated St Xavier’s of Jawalakhel 2-0 in the final of the 12th Fr Moran Cup Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament here on Saturday. Mainali opened the scoring in the eighth minute and sealed the victory in the 17th minute of the second half. Out of the six individual awards, Puspanjali took away four — Mainali (best player), Sumesh Waiba (best goalkeeper), Ajay Pun (best defender) and Alen Lepcha (best coach). Niraj Rana Magar of hosts St Xavier’s was the highest scorer with four goals to his credit, while Bibek Shrestha of Little Angels’ was named the most promising player of the tournament. In the third place play-off, Machhapuchhre School beat Little Angels’ School 2-1. In all, 15 teams of 14 schools took part in the eight-day tournament organised by St Xavier’s School of Godavari. — HNS

Gurkha Cup

LALITPUR: The united team of Suryodaya Finance and Mandala Savings and Credit registered a thumping 6-0 win over Gorkha Saving and Credit to lift the British Gurkha Cup football tournament here on Saturday. Deepak Lama struck twice while Ranjit Lama, Basudev Awal, Deepak Tamang and Bikash Maharjan scored a goal each to clinch the Rs 500,000 worth of running shield. In all, 10 teams affiliated to British Gurkha Group, took part in the tournament. — HNS

PK enter semis

KATHMANDU: Baneshwor Campus, Nightingale HS School along with two teams of hosts Padma Kanya (PK) Campus entered the semi-finals of the Inter-college Women’s Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday. PK ‘A’ beat Bhaktapur Campus 25-8, 25-6, while ‘B’ team defeated Gramin Adarsha Campus 25-20, 25-13. In other quarter-finals, Baneshwor Campus outplayed Nepal Manabiki Campus 25-16, 25-12 and Nightingale HS School eliminated Mahendra Ratna Campus 25-19, 26-24. — HNS
