Suryodaya Cup

KATHMANDU: Suryodaya Jyoti Secondary Boarding School is organising the first Suryodaya Valleywide Inter-school Basketball Tournament from December 3-9. The tournament will feature competition in two categories — Junior Boys and Senior Girls. In all, 12 teams in Junior Boys and eight in Senior Girls will vie for the championship, said the organisers at a press meet here on Sunday. — HNS

Euro 2008 draw out

LUCERNE: World Cup champions Italy will play France, the Netherlands and Romania in the toughest group drawn for the 2008 European Championship on Sunday. Greece begin the title defence against Russia, Spain and Sweden. Co-hosts Switzerland are up against Turkey, Portugal and the Czech Republic, while the other co-hosts Austria were grouped with Germany, Poland and Croatia. The event begins on June 7. — AP

Kaka wins Golden Ball

Paris: AC Milan’s Kaka won the Golden Ball award after helping the Italian club win the Champions League this year. The Brazilian received 444 points from France Football magazine, which organised the vote. Portugal and Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo was second with 277 votes, while Argentina and FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi finished third with 255. — AFP
