NRT beat Three Star

KATHMANDU: New Road Team (NRT) beat Nabil Three Star Club 2-1 in final to win the All India Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament in Gangtok on Wednesday. Nirajan Rayamajhi gave NRT the lead in the 18th minute but Ju Manu Rai equalised for Three Star in the 37th minute. Bal Gopal Sahukhala scored the winner in the 58th minute. — HNS

Pollock left out

Johannesburg: The Test future of veteran South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock was thrown in doubt on Wednesday when he was left out of the team for the first Test against New Zealand starting on Thursday. Pollock was included in a 12-man squad but captain Graeme Smith announced that South Africa would field an unchanged team following a Test series win in Pakistan last month when Pollock was not playing. — AFP

Franklin ruled out

WELLINGTON: New Zealand allrounder James Franklin pulled out of the one-day squad for the series against South Africa because of a knee injury. Franklin, who has been out for the last six months due to the injury, will have surgery later this month. New Zealand start the first of two Tests on Thursday. — AFP
