ANFA announces U-19 squad

LALITPUR: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) announced the final 20-member squad for the AFC Under-19 Championship Qualifying Tournament to be held in Uzbekistan from November 6-14. The selected players are Rupak Shrestha, Robin Shrestha, Biraj Maharjan, Dipak Bhusal, Bikash Singh Chhetri, Roshan Karki, Ranjit Shrestha, Dipendra Shrestha, Chetan Ghimire, Bharat Khawas, Anil Ojha, Pravin Karki, Buddha Raj Limbu, Amar Subba, Anil Tamang, Pukar BK, Swastik Jung Basista, Laxman Ruchal, Sandip Thapa and Kiran Kumar Limbu. Pitted in Group D, Nepal will play Jordan on November 6 before taking on Uzbekistan (November 10), Palestine (November 12) and Yamen (November 14). — HNS

NRT advance to quarter-finals

KATHMANDU: Anil Gurung scored twice as New Road Team (NRT) defeated JCT Academy 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the All India Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament in Gangtok on Thursday. Gurung scored in 30th and 115th minutes. NRT will play Titan Kerala in the quarter-finals on Saturday. — HNS

Bina wins gold

KATHMANDU: Bina Tamang of Nepal won the Lightweight gold medal at the first Nepal-India Friendly Jeetkundo Championship here on Thursday. Also winning the gold medals in female section were Rehina Khatun of India (heavyweight), Laxmi Gurung of Nepal (28.5-33kg), Minakshi Upadhyaya of Nepal (Under-23kg) and Kanchan Thapa of Nepal (23.5-28kg). Three Nepali players Bhairav Thapa (Above 56kg), Raju Bajgai (25.5-31kg) and Dipendra Rai (Under-25kg) won gold medals in men’s section. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Abhinash Chhetri and Shekhar Karki scored unbeaten 33 and 22 runs respectively to hand Standard Chartered Bank a 12-run win over Citizen Bank at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes cricket tournament on Thursday. Standard Chartered scored 64/0

and Citizens could only muster 52-3. In other matches, Nabil Bank beat Shikhar Insurance, Kumari Bank hammered NIC Bank, Pakistan Embassy beat Kantipur Group, Indian Embassy thrashed Nabil Bank and Standard Chartered Bank beat Himalayan Bank. Likewise, Siddhartha Bank defeated NIC Bank, Spice Nepal registered a win over Pakistan Embassy, Kumari Bank beat Soaltee and Kantipur defeated DHL. — HNS
