Junior handball

KATHMANDU: Nepal Handball Association (NHA) is organising the first Under-12 Inter-school Handball here on August 28-30. The tournament would be the first organised by the association since 2003 National Tournament in Pokhara. The recently reformed NHA is also planning to organise U-16 school tournament and national tournament in near future, said NHA general secretary Navaraj Darnal here today. — HNS

‘C’ Division

KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council (NSC) on Sunday permitted the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) to organise the ‘C’ Division League. On Thursday, a day prior to the kickoff, the NSC had directed ANFA to stop the League demanding the association to announce the elections dates first. The NSC was forced to revert to its decision considering the financial burdens the clubs would face, said the NSC in a statement. The NSC also asked ANFA to seek permission before organising any tournament until their election takes place. — HNS

Blake triumphs

New Haven: Third-seeded James Blake capped his remarkable New Haven run here on Saturday with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over fellow-American Mardy Fish at the Pilot Pen tennis tournament. With the win, Blake claimed his second title of the season and tenth of his career. He now looks to carry his form to New York where the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, starts from Monday. — AFP

Massa wins

Istanbul: Ferrari’s Felipe Massa won his second consecutive Turkish Grand Prix, beating teammate Kimi Raikkonen on Sunday. Two-time defending Formula One champion Fernando Alonso of McLaren was third. Overall leader Lewis Hamilton of McLaren had been in third place but dropped to fifth after shredding a tire on the 43rd lap. — AP
