Athletes off to Jordon

KATHMANDU: Two athletes, Pratap Chand of Tribhuvan Army Club and Chandra Kala Thapa of Nepal Police, left for Jordon on Sunday to participate in the 17th Asian Athletics Championship slated for July 25-30. Chand will participate in 800m and Thapa will run in 100m. Chand hoped to better his timings of one minute and 55 seconds, while Thapa aimed to shatter the national record of 12.19 seconds. “The training was short, but I hope to perform to my level best,” said Thapa whose personal best is 12.60s. — HNS

Taekwondo training

KATHMANDU: The first Taekwondo Basic Graduation Course for coaches, under the auspices of Nepal Taekwondo Association, began here on Sunday. In all, 101 coaches — upto black belt 5th DAN are taking part in the week-long course, the NTA said. The NTA has also made it mandatory for all the taekwondo coaches to take the course within the next six months time. “The licence of the training centre will be cancelled if anyone is found coaching without having the training,” said the NTA. — HNS
