KATHMANDU: A 22-member football team left for Dhaka on Wednesday to take part in the AFC U-13 Football of Festival. Accompanying with the Nepali team are coach Kishor KC and manager Manish Shrestha. A week-long tournament starts from Thursday. — HNS

MPC triumph

HETAUDA: Mahendra Police Club (MPC) won the men’s national championship while Western Region claimed the women’s title here at the National Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday. MPC defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21 while Western Region beat MPC 25-21, 21-25, 17-25, 25-23, 15-13 in the women’s final. State Minister for Education and Sports Mohan Singh Rathaur gave away the prizes. — HNS

Friendly football

KATHMANDU: National League champions Mahendra Police Club (MPC) take on All Star Team in a friendly football match here at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday. Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) will organise the event to provide a match exposure to MPC ahead of their AFC President’s Cup, scheduled for May 17-27 in Lahore. The All Star team comprises of 19 ‘A’ Division club players. Speaking at a press meet, captain of All Star team Rajesh Shahi (Nabil Three Star Club) said that it was their collective responsibility to support MPC as the club represents the country. — HNS

Tendulkar injured

KOLKATA: Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar injured his right ankle on Wednesday during practice ahead of his team’s cricket tour of Bangladesh, Press Trust of India reported. Tendulkar twisted his ankle while negotiating a bouncer from S Sreesanth on the first day of a team conditioning camp. The extent of the injury was not immediately known. — AP
