TIME OUT
Lara to continue
Kingston: Record-breaking Brian Lara delivered the news all bowlers feared on Friday — he intends to keep playing into his 40s. The 37-year-old West Indies skipper has already announced he will quit one-day internationals once the World Cup has finished, but insists he still has unfinished business. “I’m only 37, and I just think there’s a lot of work to do to get West Indies cricket back on track,” said Lara. — AP
Carlos to quit in June
MADRID: Real Madrid leftback Roberto Carlos will leave the club in June. “It’s the moment to change, I’ve spoken with (sporting director) Pedja (Mijatovic), with the president (Ramon Calderon) and I’m going,” Spanish media on Friday quoted Carlos as saying. “I’m not going to renew (my contract).” The former Brazil defender pointed to Wednesday’s 2-1 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich as the reason for his decision. — AP
Vieri resumes training
BERGAMO: Former Italy forward Christian Vieri is training again with Atalanta for the first time since knee surgery in November. Vieri is aiming to return to action at the end of this month and play the final 10 rounds of the Serie A season. He took part in dribbling exercises and shooting practice Thursday. Vieri was injured a year ago while playing for Monaco in the French league and had an operation in May, forcing him to miss Italy’s World Cup victory. — AP
