Moya reaches final

ACAPULCO: Former world No 1 Carlos Moya shocked top-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero on Friday to reach the Mexico Open final. The eighth-seeded Spaniard beat his compatriot 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to give himself a chance at a third Acapulco title, to go with those he won in 2002 and 2004. In the final he will face Argentinian fourth seed Juan Ignacio Chela. Italy’s Flavia Penetta and France’s Emilie Loit booked their places in the women’s final. Penetta defeated compatriot Sara Errani 6-2, 6-4. Loit downed Germany’s Julia Schruff 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. — AFP

Shooting tournament

LALITPUR: Nepal Shooting Association is organising the Inter-School Shooting Championship from April 7-9. The tournament features 10m air rifle and 10m air pistol events. A week-long shooting training is also scheduled before the tournament, the association said on Saturday. Meanwhile, NSA president Kishor Bahadur Karki met with the president of Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) Salman SSH Al-Sabah and director of ASC headquarter-Kuwait Dader MM Al-Juma on Friday. — HNS

Mirza suffers injury

HYDERABAD: India’s top-seeded tennis player Sania Mirza will be unable to play for at least four weeks after tearing a ligament in her right knee. Mirza, 20, suffered the injury during her first match in the Qatar Open earlier this week. She pulled out of the tournament after her 6-4, 6-3 win over Italy’s Romina Oprandi. Mirza is ranked 46th on the WTA Tour, while Oprandi is in 59th place. On Saturday, doctors in Hyderabad, performed an exploratory surgical procedure to check her ligament. — AP
