Blood donation

KATHMANDU: Nepal Kwanmukan Karate Do Association (NKKDA) organised a blood donation programme on Thursday. According to the organisers, a total of 164 persons donated blood on the programme. President of NKKDA Janak Subedi inaugurated the programme and National Sports Council’s member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha was the chief guest. — HNS

Asif takes four wickets

CENTURION: Pakistan quick Mohammad Asif took all four wickets as South Africa reached 254-4 at stumps on the second day of the first Test. Ashwell Prince (77 not out) put on a 90-run partnership with Hashim Amla (71) and an unbeaten stand of 111 with Herschelle Gibbs (58 not out) to steer the Proteas to 59 runs shy of Pakistan’s 313. Asif had 4-58 off 16 overs. Pakistan had resumed at 242-5 before Inzamam-ul-Haq was out for 42. The tail-enders pushed the total past 300, with Rana Naved-ul-Hasan scoring 30. Chakvetadze wins

Hobart: Top-seeded Anna Chakvetadze beat fellow Russian Vasilia Bardina 6-3, 7-6 (3) to win the Hobart International on Friday. The 19-year-old Chakvetadze came into the final with a pulled stomach muscle, but was able to complete the match despite showing some signs of discomfort in the first set. — AP
