KATHMANDU: Young Hearts edged past Bright Horizon 43-37 in the senior boys’ match at the sixth Wilson Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Gyan Niketan beat British Primary 31-18 and Young Hearts beat Wilson Academy 25-15 in the girls’s event. Likewise, Pennwood outplayed Elites 23-8 and The Excelsior defeated Young Hearts 39-17 in the junior boys’ matches played at the premises of the organising school. — HNS

Tennis team departs

LALITPUR: A three-member lawn tennis team left for China on Friday to participate in the first Asian College-level Tennis Championship. The team includes two players — Kumar Adhikari and Priti Rijal — and coach Surya Bhusan Bajracharya. — HNS

England lose opener

CANBERRA: England opened their three-month Ashes tour of Australia with a 166-run loss to the Prime Minister’s XI. Phil Jaques led the Prime Minister’s XI with 112 runs to help the hosts score 347-5 from 50 overs after England captain Andrew Flintoff sent the representative side in. In reply, England could only manage 181 runs at Manuka Oval. Andrew Strauss led England with 67 runs. Fast bowler Shaun Tait took 3-21 for Prime Minister’s XI. — AP
