NITF players selected

KATHMANDU: Three players of Nepal Int’l Taekwondo Federation (NITF) Sudip Pandit Chhetry, Prakash Raut and Sunil Acharya have been picked for the Super World Kick-boxing Championship to be held on August in Korea. According to NITF, all three players were also granted World Kick-boxing Federation (WFK) licence while Pandit have been selected as the WFK’s official representative in Nepal. — HNS

Rooney injury

LONDON: England striker Wayne Rooney has more than one fracture in his right foot, making his chances of playing in the World Cup even more uncertain, coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said on Wednesday. Initial X-rays showed that Rooney broke one metatarsal bone, but later checks indicated further fractures. Eriksson said he plans to name Rooney in his 23-man squad on Monday, hoping he can at least play in the latter stages of the World Cup. — AP

Stam sidelined

MILAN: Jaap Stam has played his last game for AC Milan after he underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday. The former Netherlands defender, who was injured after he collided with Milan goalkeeper Dida in his team’s 2-0 win against Livorno in the Serie A on Sunday, will miss the last two league rounds. Stam is joining Ajax next season. He has also played for PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Lazio. — AP
