Athletes return

KATHMANDU: An eight-member team returned home from Singapore after taking part in the first Youth Asian Games. Athletes Ramita Chaudhary, Manisa Adhikari, Sandip Gurung and Siddhanta Adhikari along with coach Usha Kumar Chaudhary returned back. Shooters Sneha Rana, Juhi Chaudhary and coach Pradip Khati also came home. The Games ends on July 7. A total of 43 players and officials had gone to Singapore for the Games. — HNS

LALITPUR: Casino Anna and Casino Tara registered wins in the day's matches at the Casino Royal Birthday Cup Inter-casino Women's Football Tournament here on Friday. Anna defeated Nepal Recreation Centre 1-0 on a solitary goal from Narbada Dhahal, while Anita Ghorsaini scored a brace in Casino Tara's 2-0 win over Casino Everest. — HNS

Pulchowk in semis

KATHMANDU: Pulchowk Engineering College and Kathmandu Engineering College both defeated hosts Himalaya College and advanced to the semi-finals of the first Himalaya Technical Basketball Tournament here on Friday. Pulchowk registered a 62-40 win, while Kathmandu earned 34-29 victory. Nabin Maharjan of Pulchowk and Sandip Sthapit of Kathmandu contributed 21 points each for their teams. Injured Murali out

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan will miss what is expected to be an emotional return to Test cricket against Pakistan this weekend. A knee injury has ruled 'Murali' out of Saturday's game, the first Test between the two teams since a militant attack in Lahore, Pakistan. The two teams, however, recently contested the finals of the World Twenty20 in England. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets. — AFP
