Toottenham hold Gunners

London, April 21:

Jermaine Jenas scored an injury-time equaliser on Saturday to give Tottenham a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.

Jenas scored with a 25-yard shot, but Arsenal kept a seven-year unbeaten streak against its north London rival. Emmanuel Adebayor had given Arsenal a 2-1 lead in the 78th minute with a header off a free kick from Cesc Fabregas.

Tottenham went ahead in the 30th minute when a corner from Jenas was headed on by Michael Dawson to Robbie Keane, who scored with a close-range header. Kolo Toure made it 1-1 in the 64th, heading into the corner after a free kick from Fabregas.

Fabregas had been brought on in the 40th minute for the injured Fredrik Ljungberg. In first-half injury time, Fabregas exchanged passes with Emmanuel Eboue and the Ivory Coast defender hit the post. Adebayor sent the rebound over the crossbar.

“We must think more when we play and sometimes we don’t,” Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov said. “Arsenal took the initiative and scored two goals. We were stupid to allow goals and we must stop that if we want to achieve something.” The last time Tottenham beat Arsenal in any competition was 2-1 in the league in November 1999.

Arsenal’s draw ended a week of turmoil off the field for the team. David Dein was forced to quit as vice chairman and director of Arsenal on Wednesday after falling out with board members. Dein reportedly backed a possible takeover by American businessman Stan Kroenke. Dein is a close friend of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who could leave when his contract finishes at the end of next season. Arsenal have 63 points in fourth place, and Tottenham have 50.
