Nepal Golf Association is organising the Nepal Tourism Cup under the auspices of Nepal Tourism Board, Bagmati Province Sports Development Council and Royal Nepal Golf Club, at the RNGC on Saturday.
A total of 150 golfers including 30 junior players are taking part in the tournament which will be played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, informed the organisers at a press meet on Wednesday. The junior golfers will play their rounds on Thursday, while others will compete on Friday and Saturday.
NGA Treasurer Krishna Kumar Agrawal said the annual event of the association, organised to commemorate the World Tourism Day, features overall, gross, women, senior, junior categories.
"We could not invite foreign participants in the tournament this time around due to various reasons including the 19th Asian Games, but we have players from across the country," said Agrawal.
NGA Member and RNGC Lady Captain Arshiya Banu, RNGC Captain Mithun Rai and Vice-captain Rabin Rana were also present on the occasion. Rai said the tournament could be developed as a bridge to connect with golfers in other countries including India and Thailand. "We have a perfect weather for golf and golf can help in promoting sports tourism," said Rai.
The tournament is also supported by Hotel Aloft, Hotel Soaltee, Hotel Everest, Hotel Hyatt Regency and Mechi Crown Hotel, Arshiya Boutique, China Cook Restaurant, Lamee Coffee Korean Restaurant, Pernod Recard and Jawalakhel Group of Industries. According to the NGA, Royal Hua Hin Golf Club and Springfield Golf Resort of Thailand have also extending support for the tournament with gift vouchers.
