TAC dominate Weightlifting C’ship,

Tribhuvan Army Club lifters Dinesh Shrestha and Kamala Shrestha were declared the strongest players of the Sunil Lal Joshi Memorial Weightlifting Championship here today.
The best players of the event — Nepal’s Strongest 2017 — received Rs 11,000 each along with trophies and medals. Kamala Shrestha was also adjudged the best lifter in women’s junior category, while SanjuShrestha won the honour in senior section.
Likewise, Prakash KC of Banke and Olympian Kamal BahadurAdhikari of TAC were declared the best players in junior and senior sections in men’s category respectively. Also, KiranGhartiMagar of Kaski and RashinaBasnet of Parsa were named the emerging players. Kamala Shrestha of TAC and SanjuShrestha of Banke, who broke national records, received Rs 1,000 each.
On the second and final day of the tournament organised by Kathmandu District Weightlifting Association in memory of the most successful weightlifter Olympian Sunil Lal Joshi, RajuChaudhary of TAC won the men’s 62kg section gold medal with a total lift of 190kg — 80kg in snatch and 110kg in clean and jerk.
TAC’s YagyaBahadurSaru won the 69kg section gold after he lifted 200kg that included 85kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk.
In 77kg weight category, the 10th South Asian Games gold medallist Kamal BahadurAdhikari came first after he lifted 110kg in snatch and 157kg in clean and jerk for a total of 267kg. TilakBahadurThapa of Nepal APF Club was a distant second with a total lift of 162kg, while Akash Kumar Patel of Parsa finished third with a total lift of 118kg.
Likewise, another TAC lifter SurendraShrestha won the men’s 85kg weight category gold with a total lift of 217kg that included 97 in snatch and 120 in clean and jerk.
Also, TAC’s TahalBahadurBasyal finished first in 94kg weight category with a total of 207kg, while his teammate BinodKhadka came second with 157kg.
TAC lifter Dinesh Shrestha won the 105kg section gold medal after he lifted 110kg in snatch and 148kg in clean and jerk for a total of 258kg, while another Army lifter PukarGurung won the above-105kg section gold with a total lift
of 250kg.
In junior section, Ganesh Ranabhat of Lalitpur won the 62kg section gold with the total lift of 150kg, while Prakash KC of Banke came first in 69kg section with the total weight of 212kg and SurajBaishyaof Banke claimed the 77kg weight category gold with a total lift of 166kg.
