Armymen down Police in final

Lalitpur, January 27

Hosts Tribhuvan Army Club won the title of the second CoAS National Men's Volleyball Tournament here at the Nepal Army Sports Complex today.

Defending champions TAC outplayed departmental rivals Nepal Police Club in straight sets to make it two in a row. TAC fought hard in first two sets winning them 25-23, 25-23 but took the third one comfortably registering a 25-17 win. Champions TAC bagged Rs 300,000, while runners-up NPC earned Rs 150,000. Western Region got Rs 75,000 for wining third place.

TAC also dominated the individual awards. Man Bahadur Shrestha won the best player's award and got a Pulsar motorbike. Jagadish Bhatta was named the best coach, while Dhan Bahadur Bhatta, skipper Hari Hajur Thapa and Ishwor Thapa won the awards of best spiker, blocker and defender respectively. NPC's Im Rana Magar was named the best setter. The individual prizes winners got Rs 10,000 each.

A total of eight teams — three departmental clubs and five regional teams — took part in the tournament. Chief of the Army Staff Gen Rajendra Chhetri, National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, National Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and Golchha Organisation Vice-chairman Amitabh Agrawal handed over the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, CoAS Chhetri honoured former volleyball players Bijay Bikram Khadka and Akkal Bahadur Chand with the lifetime achievement awards.
