Twenty karatekas selected for SAG

Kathmandu, June 20 :

The sixth National Karate Championship, that concluded on Tuesday, selected 13 men and seven women players for the upcoming 10th South Asian Games.

Central Region won the team championship with five golds while National team stood second with four gold medals. Winners of each category was automatically selected for the 10th SAG to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on August.

Tuesday’s winners in men’s sections include Rabindra Dahal of Mahendra Police Club (50kg), Ram Limbu of Eastern Region (55kg), Deepak Shrestha of National Team (60kg), Niroj Karmacharya (75kg), Binod Shakya of Central Region (80kg) and Ram Saran Twanty of Central Region (over 80kg).

Mahendra Police claimed the team kata while Ganga Ram Maharjan of National Team won the individual kata.

The winners in the women category include Krishna Kala KC of Far-western Region (48kg) and Amrita Shakya of Central Region (53kg). Central Region won the women’s team kata while Sulochana Sijakhu claimed the individual kata.

Four men — Birendra Dahal (50kg), Ram Limbu (65kg), Kushal Shrestha (70kg) and Bikram Meche and a woman (Krishnakala KC) qualified on Monday. A total of 150 players participated in the tournament organised by Nepal Karate Federation.
