KATHMANDU: Ujjwal Tara School felicitated legendary marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar with Ujjwal Tara Sports Award here on Saturday.
Ujjwal Tara School Management Committee President Gayatri Karki, Advisor Col Bishnu Karki and Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Mayor Upendra Karki honoured the fourtime Olympian and South Asian record holder Manandhar during the closing ceremony of the seventh Dashain Run For Good Health event.
Manandhar was felicitated and handed over Rs 25,000. Meanwhile, Gajendra Rai, Ajit Kumar Yadav and Shreekesh Rai claimed top three spots in men's 5km race, while Nirmala KC, Padam Kumari Sunuwar and Swastika Tinwa came first, second and third respectively in women's category. Top three athletes in both sections received Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Around 700 participants took part in the event which also featured parents, senior citizens and couples categories.
According to event coordinator Col Karki, the registration fees will be provided to the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health established by Dr Bhagwan Koirala.
