University Cricket Cup from today

Kathmandu, April 3

University Cricket Club is organising the University Cricket Cup T20 Tournament from Tuesday at the TU Stadium.

A total of 16 teams from Kathmandu valley will compete in the tournament which aims to providing the cricketers from universities and colleges a platform to showcase their talent, informed tournament director Sudeep Sharma at a press meet today.

Two teams from Nepal Engineering College along with TU Central Campus, Patan Multiple Campus, NIST College, Sahid Smarak College, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Cosmos College of Management, Nepal Commerce Campus, Global College, St Lawrence College, Shankardev Campus, Rajarshi College, K&K College, Golden Gate International College and School of Arts of Kathmandu University will compete in the event.

Sharma said the Club would organise University League from next year with the objective of producing players for national team. Top two teams will receive Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively, while the best player of the tournament, batsman, bowler, emerging player and fielder will get gift hampers. The organisers have set Rs 20,000 as entry fee and the estimated budget for the event is Rs one million. Sponsor Sports Drink is the main sponsor of the tournament.

Sharma also informed that eight best players of the tournament would get one-year free training at the Great Himalayan Cricket Academy and also compete in various tournaments. The final of the tournament is slated for April 11.
