Uzbekistan triumph

LALITPUR: Uzbekistan upset defending champions Turkmenistan 3-0 in the Group B match of the AVC Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship here at the Nepali Army Sports Complex covered hall on Tuesday.

Uzbekistan dominated the match and registered a 25-18, 25-21, 25-15 win for their second consecutive victory. They had defeated Bangladesh in the first match on Monday.

In another match, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling five-set encounter. Afghanistan, who had lost against Turkmenistan in their first match, registered a 25-21, 13-25, 18-25, 25-13, 15-12 victory for their first win.

A total of seven teams — divided into two groups — are taking part in the fifth edition of the championship which is being hosted by Nepal Volleyball Association for the first time.

Top two each from both pools will make it to the semi-finals after group stage matches.
