Vanasthali clinch Six-A-Side football trophy
KATHMANDU: Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute claimed the title of the third Sujan Memorial Six-A-Side football tournament defeating Casino At Service 1-0 in sudden death here at the Naya Bazaar grounds today.
The match reached to the tie breaker after the normal 60 minutes of time ended in a goalless stalemate. Both the teams attempted three shots each in the tie breaker but failed to score. Buddha Lama scored the only goal of the day to help his team clinch the title in sudden death.
Lama was also adjudged the best player of the tournament, while Kumar Lama of Vanasthali was declared man of the match. Along with the title, Vanasthali also pocketed Rs 10,000 while Casino At Service earned Rs 5,000. Rupendra Shrestha of Casino At Service scored five goals in the tournament to take highest scorer’s award. Faksingh United won the fair play award.
The organisers, Social Welfare Sports Centre also felicitated the treasurer of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Birat Jung Shahi for his contribution in the development of the sport in the country. Shahi is also the president of Kathmandu District Football Association (KDFA).
Central Committee Member of ANFA, Ramesh Rayamajhi, vice-presidents of KDFA Bharat Prasad Aryal and Dinesh Maharjan, photo journalist Sundar Shrestha and the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum were also feted during the closing ceremony of the tournament.
