Kathmandu, March 1

National Volunteer Nepal appointed national cricket team skipper Paras Khadka as its first Goodwill Ambassador today.

Himalayan Climate Initiative founder Prashant Singh handed over the letter of Goodwill Ambassador to skipper Khadka during a programme in Singha Durbar. National Volunteer Nepal is the body under HCI that deploys volunteers in relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts and aims to enroll 100,000 volunteers from all over Nepal.

After being appointed as Goodwill Ambassador, skipper Khadka said he will inspire Nepali youths to join the programme. “As a captain I represent all the players and we made it to the ICC World Twenty20 as an unit. Now time has come that we need to involve in other matters of the country,” said Khadka. “As a player I have learnt many things and I will inspire youths to be involved in the initiative,” added Khadka.

Khadka also said he was volunteering for Nepali cricket for last 13 years. “I have been working as volunteer for Nepali cricket for the last 13 years,” said Khadka, who made his national team debut in 2004 and has been leading the team as skipper since 2009.

HCI Founder Singh said the organization appointed Khadka as Goodwill Ambassador as cricket unites the nation. “We believe cricket is one of the influencing factors and skipper Khadka’s involvement will also inspire others,” said Singh.

Similarly, National Reconstruction Authority Chief Executive Officer Govinda Raj Pokharel said Khadka was an idol of many Nepali youths.

“Khadka has proved himself in the field as well as out of the field and I hope youths will believe in him,” said Pokharel.
