KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 22

The Cricket Association of Nepal is organising the Wai Wai Under-19 National Cricket Tournament from Wednesday at the TU Stadium and Mulpani grounds.

A total of seven teams - one each from seven provinces - will take part in the round robin tournament, informed the organisers at a press meet today. Top two teams will advance to the final after the league round.

The winners will be richer by Rs 200,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 100,000.

The player of the series will earn Rs 15,000, while the best batter and bowler will get Rs 10,000 each. Player of the match will get Rs 2,000 and the CAN will provide the players with match fee of Rs 1,000 each.

Chaudhary Group is the main sponsor of the tournament and it will provide CAN with seven million rupees for the event. Deputy General Manager of Chaudhary Group Lal Babu Prasad said Wai Wai had been supporting the youth tournament for 17 years. "We have been sponsoring the U-19 tournament for a long time and it will continue in the years to come," Prasad said.

According to CAN Acting Secretary Prashant Bikram Malla, the tournament will also serve as the selection event for the U-19 national team. The U-19 team is scheduled to take part in the Asia Division-I Qualifiers for the U-19 World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in 2024.

Nepal will compete against the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore in the qualifiers to be held in the UAE. The winners of the tournament will earn berth in the World Cup.
