Dhondup wins Citizens Bank Open

Kathmandu, April 8

Wangchen Dhondup won the Citizens Bank Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, Dhondup won the trophy on count back after he was tied on 38 points with Maj Gen Mahesh Bikram Karki. The two were separated on the count of last six holes as both of them scored 20 and 18 points each on two halves.

The two-handicap amateur golfer Dhondup scored 12 points on the last six holes, while the seven-handicapper Karki scored 11. With the trophy, Dhondup received gift voucher worth Rs 50,000, while runner-up Karki got gift voucher worth Rs 20,000.

Tashi Tsering won the gross section award with 35 gross points and received gift voucher worth Rs 20,000 along with the trophy. Tsering also bagged the most birdies award with three birdies and received gift voucher worth Rs 5,000. Pratima Sherpa won the women’s section trophy with 38 points and received gift voucher worth Rs 15,000, while Gopal Chitrakar lifted the senior section title with 36 points and got gift voucher worth Rs 10,000.

Likewise, Tenzing Youden won the junior section title with 19 points and bagged gift voucher worth Rs 10,000 along with a trophy. Col Man Raj Singh Mann and Korean golfer Kim Seung Guk won the closest-to-the-pin and longest drive awards respectively and received gift voucher worth Rs 5,000 each.

In all, 95 golfers took part in the tournament. Chairman of Citizens Bank International Ltd Dr Shankar Sharma, CEO Rajan Singh Bhandari, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
