Wilson, Gyan Niketan enter quarters

Wilson Academy, Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS), Gyan Niketan and Holy Garden entered the quarter-finals of the Kathmandu Districtwide Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by PABSON to mark the 78th birthday of Queen Mother Ratna and 41st Children’s Day, here today. In the day’s pre-quarters held at Loyalty Academy at Mandikhatar, Wilson defeated Suryodaya School 53-14 in which Binay Rijal top-scored with 10 points for the winners; Gyan Niketan knocked out Cambridge 31-13 riding on Sanjaya Rai’s 13 points; Binod Adhikari netted nine points in Holy Garden’s 36-33 win over Nava Jyoti School; and RIBS earned walkover from Valley Public School.

Taekwondo

KATHMANDU: Geeta Thapa of Central Taekwondo Training Centre defeated Sabina Pujari of National Taekwondo Training Centre in the women’s finn weight (47kg) category of the seventh Central Region Taekwondo Tournament, which has been organised by Nepal Taekwondo Association under the auspices of National Sports Council, here today. Also advancing to the next round of the same section were Rajani Chuliyaha (Bhaktapur), Pramila Kumal (Khaireni), Bima Rai (Kathmandu), Yan Kumari Chaulagain (Bagdev), Sabina Dhoubanjar (Sallaghari), Kabita Shrestha (Dharke), and Saraswati Magar (Mahadev Makhan).

In men’s finn weight (54kg) category, Ramesh Gurung (Kapan), Hari bahadur Shrestha (Sindhupalchowk), Bishnu Neupane (Dallu), Thaneshwor Darlami (Bara), Sunil Byanjankar (Maitri), Surendra KC (Central Dojang), Ashok Khadka (Mulpani), and Surendra Shahi (Bagdev) entered the quarter-finals. Ganesh Thapa of Khaireni defeated Bir Bahadur Lama of Syuchatar and Dhan Bahadur Darai of Syuchatar knocked out Tilak Lama of Dhanusha to enter the men’s fly weight (54-58kg) section.
