Women’s National this week

Kathmandu, July 18

In the absence of Cricket Association of Nepal, which has been suspended by the International Cricket Council, the National Sports Council is organising the Women’s National Selection Tournament from July 22-26 at the TU Stadium.

A total of six teams — one each from five development regions and Nepal APF Club — will take part in the four-day competition, which will be played under Twenty20 format. The regional teams were selected after the tournaments in 22 districts and all five regions, informed the NSC in a release on Monday.

The teams have been divided into two pools and the top team each after round robin league will advance to the final. The winning side will receive Rs 100,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 50,000. A total of 24 players will be selected for the closed camp training to prepare for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier – Asia, which will be held at the Tin Kwong Recreation Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong from October 9-15.

The NSC has formed a coordination committee headed by its Board Member Shailesh Karmacharya to conduct the selection tournament. The same committee will also hold men’s and U-19 tournaments in the days to come, said the NSC.
