WORLD CUP : Ringside View

FRANKFURT:

An International Media Lounge has been set up as a base and meeting point for journalists from all over the world in Frankfurt. Located right in the heart of the city within the inner courtyard of the Museum of Local History (“Historisches Museum”) it opened early June.

Football has been the main focus at the Media Lounge with journalists being able to watch all of the World Cup games on TV in a relaxed atmosphere, amongst an international crowd. In between the games the media guests have been kept in good spirits by programmes of entertainment and a variety of food and drinks.

The organisers; the Frankfurt Press Club (FPC) and the City of Frankfurt Press and Information Office (PIA) has also been offering journalists professional assistance. The Media Lounge is being supported by virtually all of the Frankfurt media and every agency represented in the city. “We want to give our colleagues a warm welcome to Frankfurt and to offer them via the Media Lounge a good service of information and a pleasant place to relax and chat”, says Nikolaus Münster, Head of the City’s Press and Information Office. “Of course, we’re looking forward, too, to getting to know colleagues from all over the world.”

Journalists looking for information and tips for their work in Frankfurt are finding help at the Media Lounge too. Providing material on sport, business, the arts and the restaurant scene in Frankfurt, the Press Office is also helping in trying to gain filming consents for the media personnel.

“We want the Media Lounge to contribute to conveying a long-lasting, positive image of the city and of the Rhine/Main region”, stresses Werner D’Inka, President of the Frankfurt Press Club and co-publisher of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
