Wushu players selected for SAG

The 12th South Asian Games gold medal winning wushuka Nima Gharti Magar earned her place in the upcoming regional sporting extravaganza along with 21 other players today.

Gharti Magar, the lone Nepali wushu player to win gold in the previous edition of the SA Games in Guwahati and Shillong in 2015, was one of the eight players selected in Taolu events. She will represent the country in women’s Nanquan event, while Deepak Hamal will take part in men’s category.

Bijay Sinjali and Sushmita Tamang earned berths in Chang Quan, while Hari Prasad Gole and Mina Glan were selected in Taijiquan. Bishwa Budha Magar earned berth in men’s Daoshu and Qiangshu, while KabitaThapa was selected in women’s Jianshu and Qiangshu. All the players are from TAC except for Deepak Hamal (Farwest) and KabitaThapa (Nepal APF Club).

A total of 14 players made the cut in Sanshou, including six women wushukas, from the final selection tournament. Ashok Khaling (52kg), Amar Sunar (56kg), Mangal Prasad Tharu (60kg), Subash Bhul Sethi (65kg), Chitra Singh Thakuri (70kg), Padam Rai (75kg), Nikesh Shrestha (80kg), and Kiran Singh Saud (85kg) earned berths in their respective weight categories. Likewise, Alina Chaudhary (52kg), Juni Rai (56kg), Nisha BK (60kg), Manisha Raut (65kg), Bindu Pun Magar (70kg), and Shilu Dangol (75kg) were selected in women’s Sanshou events.

The players were selected from among wushukas called up for the preliminary camp. The 13th edition of SA Games is slated for December 1-10 in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
