Yamuna, Preeti advance to Triyog Badminton final

Kathmandu, September 19 :

Yamuna Thapa and Preeti entered the senior girls’ singles final at the Triyog Inter-school Badminton Tournament here today.

Yamuna beat Bidushi Thapa in straight sets 21-8, 21-8 while Preeti edged past Aditi Pandey 21-13, 19-21, 21-18 in the semi-finals.

Vardan Giri and Bijesh Tamrakar will clash for the senior boys’ singles title. Vardan beat Lakchya B Shah 22-20, 21-19 and Bijesh came back from a set down to beat Abishek Boss 15-21, 21-13, 21-17.

Saugat Pulami beat Manish Shrestha 21-14, 21-9 and Sajan K Tamrakar defeated Sahil P Shrestha 21-11, 21-17 in the junior boys’ semi-finals.

Manisha Sanankar and Dolma Lama made it to the final of the junior girls’ section. Manisha ousted Sunita Ranamagar 21-8, 21-6 while Dolma beat Prasansa Shrestha 21-18, 21-12. The pair of Preeti and Pramila defeated Divyani and Aditi 22-20, 19-21, 23-21 while Yamuna and Puja overpowered Aditi Pandey and Laling to enter the final of the girls’ doubles.

The pair of Lakshya and Lokesh, and Bijesh and Vardan cruised to the boys’ doubles final. Lakshya and Lokesh registered an easy 21-9, 21-7 win over Ashish and Tej in the first semi-final while Bijesh and Vardan edged past Saugat and Probal 21-15, 21-23, 21-9 in another semi-final.

Galaxy Public School blanked Malpi International School 2-0 and Prithvi Boarding School beat the hosts Triyog High School 2-1 to enter the final of the girls’ team event.

Suvatara and Malpi made it to the final in the boys’ team event. Suvatara School defeated Galaxy 2-0 and Malpi International beat Triyog with the same margin.

The finals of all the categories will be held on Wednesday.
