Exit of monsoon rains opens door for cold wave, nationwide

Fog and mist forecast for some days in the morning and evening

Kathmandu, October 15

With the monsoon making an exit from Nepal on Saturday, weather has become colder with gradual fall of temperatures across the country.

Ganga Nagarkoti, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division said with the departure of monsoon, the temperature would start dipping. “In Nepal, winter begins due to the impact of the Westerly wind,” said Nagarkoti.

People across the country have been experiencing cold weather due to the formation of a trough in the troposphere from the west Mediterranean sea and the cold wind originated from the Arab Sea. This year, the departure of monsoon had delayed. Tentatively, monsoon enters Nepal on June 10 and departs on September 23. Temperature will dip with the exit of monsoon, according to meteorologists.

Minimum temperature is expected to fluctuate due to a seasonal effect. Cold weather is being felt in Kathmandu in mornings and evenings.

The Division has forecast the occurrence of fog and mist in the morning for some days, causing general disturbance in air flights and road transport, urging the bodies concerned to be aware of the changing weather condition. The latest data released by the Division showed Kathmandu valley’s minimum temperature this afternoon was 14.5 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was measured at 27.3 degrees Celsius.
