Nepali Congress to field Sushil Koirala as PM candidate against KP Sharma Oli
KATHMANDU: Top three leaders of Nepali Congress on Saturday morning decided to field party President and incumbent Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in the prime ministerial election.
The Parliament is scheduled to hold election tomorrow. The aspiring candidates will have to file their nominations today.
The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee had entrusted the three leaders with authority to make final decision on the prime ministerial election including whether to field the party's own candidate or lend support to KP Sharma Oli of CPN-UML.
It has been learned that despite their ambitions, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel agreed for Koirala's candidacy.
The CPN-UML’s Standing Committee had already announced the party chairman and Parliamentary Party leader, KP Sharma Oli, as the candidate for the prime ministerial election. The party has sought support from major as well as fringe partiesm
After the deadline to consensually choose new Prime Minister ended on Thursday, the President has asked the House to hold election to form majoritarian government. Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang on Friday called a meeting of the Parliament for 11 am on Sunday, October 11, to elect new Prime Minister.
