UML forms investigation committee to probe into Mayor's involvement in Ghodaghodi case

DHANGADHI: CPN-UML has formed a three-member investigation committee on Sunday, to probe into Ghodaghodi Mayor Mamata Prasad Chaudhary's involvement in meditating an agreement in the Radha Chaudhary case at the local police station.

UML District Committee meeting held in Dhangadhi formed a committee under district secretariat committee member and regional in-charge Bimal Joshi to carry investigations on Mayor Chaudhary who is also the district committee member of the ruling party.

The committee has Santosh Sharma and Keba Lal Chaudhary, other local leaders of the party, as its members.

Radha Chaudhary of Ghodaghodi Municipality-5, Deukali, was ruthlessly beaten on accusation of practicing ‘witchcraft’ on Thursday. Mayor Chaudhary, instead of taking an action against abusers, had played a mediator's role to settle the case between the abused and abusers.

“There has been report circulated regarding our party cadres being involved in the case so we have formed the probe committee. If anybody's involvement is ascertained, party will take strong action against them,” said UML’s District Acting Chief Ratan Thapa.

The local police had released the suspect Ram Bahadur Chaudhary in presence of Chaudhary and Ward Chief Prem Rokaya (who also was elected from UML), on that fateful day.

Suspect Chaudhary was released after he claimed that he would undertake medical treatment expenses as required for Radha Chaudhary.

UML District Secretary Rana Bahadur Chand informed that the investigation committee has been given five days duration to carry out its investigation. “We are beginning our work from Monday and will submit the report on time,” stated Committee Coordinator Joshi.
