HETAUDA, FEBRUARY 07

One person died while nine others sustained injuries after the sumo jeep they were travelling on skidded off the road in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-9 of Makawanpur district on Saturday.

Police have identified the deceased as Parmananda Chaudhary (33) of Banauli in Saptari.

According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep (Na 1 Ja 4138), en route from Kathmandu to Hetauda, skidded off the road in Goalmod along the Tribhuvan Highway at 8:00 pm, injuring 10.

Critically injured Chaudhary was rushed to Hetauda-based Churehill Hospital where he breathed his last during the course of treatment the same night, informed Indra Bahadur Rana, Spokesperson of District Police Office, Makawanpur.

The jeep driver Shriram Chaurasiya (26) of Birgunj Metropolitan -20 in Parsa, who had fled the incident site, surrendered to the DPO at 8:00 am on Sunday morning, added police spokesperson Rana.

As per the statement recorded by the driver, the accident occurred due to the snow buildup on the road.
