Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has expressed sorrow over the death of Ganesh Nepali, who succumbed to injuries sustained after attempting self-immolation outside the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction.
In a press statement issued on Friday, KMC extended condolences to the bereaved family and said it was deeply saddened by the tragic incident.
The metropolitan said it had been informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs had formed an investigation committee to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. KMC pledged full cooperation with the probe and said it would implement necessary corrective and accountable measures based on the committee's findings.
The statement added that KMC would continue to coordinate with the federal government to identify solutions, prevent similar incidents in the future and strengthen institutional practices. It also appealed to the public to remain patient and exercise restraint during this sensitive period.
As immediate relief measures, the metropolitan announced that its executive meeting would decide on providing humanitarian assistance to the late Nepali's family, facilitating employment opportunities for the family, and ensuring free education for his children.
