11 Malaysian tourists killed in northern Thailand bus crash

BANGKOK: Officials say 11 tourists from Malaysia have died in a bus crash in northern Thailand.

Police Col. Manote Sudsawat of the Doi Saket police station said the bus, carrying 21 tourists and a driver, was coming down a mountain road Sunday around noon from Chiang Rai on the way to Chiang Mai when it went out of control, hitting several cars before flipping over.

Police initially identified the victims as Chinese, but later confirmed they were Malaysian, as did Doi Saket Hospital.

Thailand has one of the highest traffic fatality rates in the world.
