AP floods spur evacuation

Hyderabad, August 8:

Around 30,000 people have been evacuated following floods in Krishna and Godavari, the two major rivers that flow through Andhra Pradesh. Officials said people have been shifted from the villages on the banks of rivers to safer places as dozens of villages were inundated in Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts. Following heavy rains in the catchment areas in Karnataka and Maharashtra and downpours in Andhra Pradesh during the last three weeks, the water levels are rising alarmingly in both rivers. Four people also drowned in two different incidents yesterday.
